“Appreciate our conscious ignorance, and our unconscious awareness.”

(Readers will find book blurbs on the Buy Pages.)

Readers ask, “What is a book about?”

Composers ask, “What is the text doing?”

LITERATURE. AIM: to intensify word-combinations. Eschewing plot in favour of awareness (real life lacks plot and IS awareness), Faces reads quickly or slowly, but not ‘to find out what happens next’. This is plunging down the drain, or bathing. The subtitle gagosa refers to false face masks, purported to be living beings, which of course they are, being our unconscious.

SATIRE. SCIENCE FICTION. Google the title you’ll find Brownian Noise or Random Walk, the sound produced by random molecular motions. Id est Ourselves. AIM: to embody simultaneous multiplicity. Ebook formatting does not permit the visually overlapping text that print format does; but no matter, since your consciousness formats itself according to ebook standard: one thing at a time. A character in the book descends deeper and deeper into the brain without knowing so; the reader likewise.

MEMOIR. AIM: To have text SHOW or BE a life-portrait rather than to TELL it. Or “by indirection find direction out.” Using words as in themselves the subject of the memoir, for the memoirist is embedded in them. The apparent irrelevancy of the content: the Murdered Man, Bell Rock, the voyageurs, a turtle’s pilgrimage, embodies experience which (so claims the memoirist) reveals a personality.

ANTHOLOGY. I like this collection, but then I always like the most recent of my writings. By summarizing in one place selections from diverse writings, it shows the unity of concerns which underlie them. Absurdity stands cheek-by-jowl with nonfiction. The collection also includes religious-based writings whose conclusions I no longer hold, but which nevertheless reveal the respect with which I have treated the subject, and (I think) portray religion in the most intellectually appealing form possible. The serious consideration with which I have treated religious theory should make more substantial my ultimate rejection of it as a description of being.

Towards A Unified Theory of Awareness

NONFICTION. AIM: to adapt Thomas Aquinas’ Summa format to a modern secular summation of being-study, which is a consciousness / unconsciousness phenomenon. The core of Aquinas’ argument is ens, a particular body, but since Aquinas lived in a pre-quantum mechanics time, lacking MRI scanners, he had to take recourse in immaterial motions (‘forms’ & ‘God’ in the vocabulary of his age) to explain body. This text also takes ens as its core, arguing in addition that language itself blinds us from perceiving particular body. See note **

PULP FICTION. An anomaly amongst Hughes’ writings. Nevertheless it has an aim: to mythologize from a New World perspective, and to decondition Western perceptions regarding women. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Conan, etc., all present a mythological world based on Europe with a Western Sea. Sin is based in the heartland of the New World, Mesoamerica, with the sea to the east. The protagonist, Sin, is put through the mangle, and through the process it becomes clear that Western codes regarding chivalry, chaste heroines, masculine saviours, and motherhood are mere cultural biases.

LITERATURE. PROSODIC. AIM: sound-combine contemplations on identity, using Tom Thomson as matrix. Each contemplation is a snapshot, 330-words long. Unfortunately, the ebook sample only offers the opening few entries, designed to ease the reader into this poetic space. As the book progresses, so too do the contemplations deepen, affronting the boundaries of conventional language-forms. I’m going to try recording some of the more challenging pieces and posting them here.

The unConsciousness Manifesto

NONFICTION. AIM: to play off The Communist Manifesto by outlining a radical reconceptualization, not of economic formations, but rather of CONSCIOUSNESS PERCEPTIONS. We can now scan our brain activity! We can observe the observer! New studies show us that we’ve never been who we believed. Both self and self-awareness get reconceptualised (and a counter-argument is made to the buddhist-influenced nonself [anatman] view). Evolution and language are entirely re-evaluated in light of brain science. Language is not “for” communication. Using fire is not “for” heat or “for” cooking. Clothes are not “for” warmth. The capitalized C in the word unConscious indicates how aware our supposed unawareness actually is.

** Quotation from Towards a Unified Theory of Awareness : “What past ages attributed to spirit, soul, numen, angel, deity, we now can scan as physiological neuronal motion in the parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes, that is, the auto-organizing unconscious.”

Examining our PERSON & NATURE in the light of 21st century consciousness science, and discovering how our fundamental selves are the natural operations of this universe.
